Craps Online – Learn to play Craps

dice and chips

Craps is a game of dice played against other players or a bank, at a special table or on the floor. When played in casinos, it can be a bit intimidating for the novice player at first. It is common for more than twelve players per table to gather, all shouting at the same time. And at first, the rules may seem a little complicated.

But when you play well it’s quite simple, and as casino games work, the chances of winning are higher than in the rest.

In this article, you will find a complete guide that will teach you how to play Craps. And that includes the rules, how to bet, odds/margin, strategies for playing Craps and much more.

Basic information

The oldest known game of chance with dice was played in 1573 BC in Egypt. Its name was Theban Dice.

Craps is the proud descendant of that game of dice. It developed from a simplification of the Old English game of chance.

Craps are played for the most part in the United States. The name has become synonymous with the fun and excitement of the game.

American Craps originated on the Mississippi River during the steamboat era, around 1800. Since then, craps has become the loudest, fastest and most adrenaline-pumping game in casinos.

In Europe, it is difficult to find Craps tables in casinos. Due to the growing number of Craps fans all over the world, the simplest option is to play online. Although some of the “authentic” taste of Craps is lost (known through US casinos or movies). Online play makes it possible to take part in one of the best casino games available. Especially from the point of view of the chances of winning.

Craps compared to other casino games like Poker

If we compare Craps with other casino players like poker, it is not a game of skill but rather of luck. Although as mentioned above the odds on Craps when played the right way are quite better than games like poker.

However, if you are looking for a game that depends on a higher degree of skill, we recommend poker as the best option. It takes much longer to learn how to play poker compared to playing craps.

About Playing Craps

table

Playing craps isn’t as complicated as you might think. The first time you come to the table, place a small bet on the pass line. The pass line is the strip that runs around the entire perimeter of the table, encompassing the design of the table.

The pass line bet is a bet on the first roll of the dice, and it’s a win if the result is 7 or 11 (also called the come-out roll). On the come-out roll, the 7 and 11 are immediate winners. While if the shooter rolls 2, 3, or 12, then he is designated “craps,” meaning he loses.

Any other number establishes a pass-line point (nobody wins or loses). At this point, the shooter’s goal is to roll the same number again before a 7 is rolled. If you manage to roll the pass-line/pass-line point before the 7 is rolled, you win. But if a 7 is rolled before you get it, you lose, and that hand is over. In this case, the dice are passed to another player, who becomes the new shooter.

Craps Betting

So, if the shooter does not draw craps or a 7 or an 11, what he draws is a shooter’s point/point number. When he gets it, you must put another small amount of money next to the original bet (a proper bet would be almost double the original bet). This “extra” bet is called a supplemental/ free-odds bet. In short, an odds bet.

The original bet (the pass-line bet you placed) pays out in the same amount as you bet, if you win. The supplement/odds bet, on the other hand, pays out as true-odds money (with the percentage equal to the actual chance of winning). So, even if you put in more money on this bet, the win is important. It’s because the house margin is exactly 0. At that moment, the house pays out the money as true-odds, the house margin is always 0. Almost all casino gambling bets pay out less than the actual odds of winning. Which makes this type of business very profitable.

This bet doesn’t even appear in the design of the craps table. This is because it is a great bet for the player, but not so good for the casino.

Playing with a pass line bet and then a supplementary free-odds is a strategy that you can use always at the table, with quite significant success. Especially if the shooter gets a point.  It’s even more fun when you are the shooter because you will have many other players waiting for you to succeed.

Anyway, to make it go up, bet on the pass line. Add extra bets/odds bets when the shooter gets a point. Although there are over 120 different types of bets you can make on craps when you’re starting out. The strategy shown in this article will get you into the game real quick.
